Three proposals push back on pouch ban in France as smoke-free zones take effect

As France heads into summer with expanded public smoking bans starting 1st July – including beaches, playgrounds and all areas frequented by children – a parallel legislative battle is unfolding over nicotine pouches. While the new smoke-free zones might push some towards these alternative nicotine products, the government intends to ban them.

The proposed ban has faced significant pushback, with several EU countries expressing concerns about its compatibility with EU free-trade principles, and the French Parliament has become a focal point for the future of nicotine pouch regulation.
