11th April 2024: Greece: The Customs Authority has released a new circular in which it imposes an obligation for all entities involved in the tobacco supply chain, with the exception of growers and those companies merely providing transportation services, to register with the Single Central Register of the Supply Chain of Tobacco and Manufactured Tobacco (EKMEA). Entities involved in the heated tobacco (HT) supply chain will need to register by 20th August 2024, three months after the track-and-trace requirements start applying to these products.

13th December 2023: Greece: Law 5073/2023 introducing a tax on herbal heated products and nicotine pouches was published in the Official Gazette on 11th December. The tax on herbal heated products will be the same as that currently applicable to heated tobacco products (€156.70 per kg), while the tax on nicotine pouches will be €50 per kg. The law will enter into force two months from the publication date.
11th December 2023: Greece: Last week, the parliament approved the bill that seeks to introduce a tax on herbal heated products and nicotine pouches. The tax for herbal heated products would be the same as that currently applicable to heated tobacco products (€156.70 per kg), while the tax on nicotine pouches would be €50 per kg. The bill is pending its publication on the Official Gazette, and would enter into force two months after its publication.
27th November 2023: Greece: The public consultation on the bill that would introduce a tax on herbal heated products and nicotine pouches ends today. The tax for herbal heated products would be the same as that currently applicable to heated tobacco products (€156.70 per kg), while the tax on nicotine pouches would be €50 per kg. The bill will supposedly be introduced to the parliament in the coming weeks.
