US - Oklahoma: The state Senate will attempt again to override governor Kevin Stitt’s veto of an extension to the tribal tobacco tax compact, after 26 tribes wrote to lawmakers urging them to do so, press reports. The compact is an agreement between the state and tribal nations that establishes rules for tax collection and administration of tobacco products. Stitt blocked the Senate-approved extension in May, claiming it would cause the state “irreparable harm”. Five tribal leaders signed a resolution last Friday, noting that the Oklahoma Legislature has had a central role in creating compacts that benefit both the state and tribal governments.
