The recent election of president Javier Milei in Argentina is considered encouraging for the South American country’s e-cigarette and heated tobacco market, industry leaders told TobaccoIntelligence.
Milei, who won the presidency as a candidate for the Freedom Advances (La Libertad Avanza) party on 19th November, is considered a far-right libertarian and is a self-described “anarcho-capitalist”. On the campaign trail, he proposed drastic cabinet changes – such as the elimination of half of the government ministries, including health and education – that he says will assist the South American country to lower its ballooning inflation rate, which has risen to more than 140%.
