South Africa: The Portfolio Committee on Health has extended to 4th September the deadline for written comments on the Tobacco Products and Electronic Delivery Systems Control Bill, which aims to regulate the sale, advertising and packaging of tobacco products and e-cigarettes. Comments should be submitted by email to tobaccobill@parliament.gov.za or through an online form.

South Africa: The National Treasury, in its 2023 Budget Review, proposed a 4.9% increase in excise duty on heated tobacco sticks from ZAR14.87 ($0.81) to ZAR15.60 ($0.85) per pack of 20. The treasury said a tobacco review paper would be published later this year, following consultations on excise policies.
