Czech Republic: An amendment to the Act on the Protection of Health from the Harmful Effects of Addictive Substances comes into force today, bringing changes to the regulation of nicotine pouches. Retailers have a three-month period to adapt to the new rules, which place pouches under the same restrictions on sales and public use as tobacco and e-cigarettes, including the ban on sales to under-18s.

Czech Republic: National anti-drug coordinator Jindřich Vobořil has told reporters that an overdue action plan on addiction will be sent to the government by the end of March. The plan, which was to have been presented at the end of the last year, includes proposals for new taxation of addictive substances – reportedly including an excise tax for nicotine pouches – as well as bringing the tax on heated tobacco products closer to that on smoking tobacco.

Czech Republic: An amendment to the Act on the Protection of Health from the Harmful Effects of Addictive Substances will come into force on 17th March. It will apply to nicotine pouches the restrictions that already cover sales and public place use of tobacco and e-cigarettes, including the ban on sales to minors. Retailers will be given three months to adapt to the new rules.

Czech Republic: The Senate yesterday approved an amendment to the Law on the protection of health from the harmful effects of addictive substances, bringing nicotine pouches under the same restrictions on sales and public usage as tobacco and e-cigarettes, media reports. It means pouches can no longer be sold to under-18s, once the amendment has been signed by the president.

Czech Republic: The Ministry of Finance has told TobaccoIntelligence that tax revenues from heated tobacco products were CZK1.2bn (€50.64m) in 2020, CZK1.4bn (€59.1m) in 2021 and CZK2.4bn (€101.3m) in 2022. The ministry said the government was planning to adjust its national policy with the forthcoming revision of the EU Tobacco Excise Directive, which it expects to be presented in the first half of this year.

Czech Republic: A Ministry of Health draft decree on tobacco-free nicotine pouches has been notified to the EU TRIS system. It seeks to provide further regulatory details for the composition, labelling, notification and other requirements for nicotine pouches, including a limit of 12 mg of nicotine per pouch. The standstill period ends on 20th April.
