The Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products (Vaping) Amendment Bill, which was adopted in New Zealand’s national Parliament on 4th August, regulates heated tobacco products for the first time in the country and will enter into force in November 2020. Further regulations are needed to implement the Act. Proposals for the regulations will be publicly consulted in late 2020/early 2021. This report offers a comprehensive overview of the regulatory regime for heated tobacco in New Zealand, covering everything from product, packaging and advertising restrictions, to notification, taxation and public usage.
