Scots to consult on their vision for a tobacco-free future

The Scottish government will consult on a range of new regulations for reduced-risk products, including further restrictions on advertising of e-cigarettes, banning some flavours in heated-tobacco products, and banning their use in public places.

It has published a new tobacco control action plan, Raising Scotland’s Tobacco-free Generation, outlining its intentions.

The aim of the document is to set the foundations for the generation born since 2013 to be tobacco-free (smoking rates at 5% or less) from the age of 21.

As part of that the government in Holyrood is examining how it can best serve the cessation needs of current smokers over the next five years and what new regulations might keep smoking initiation as close to zero as possible.
