Details remain sketchy as to how and when the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s plan to impose nicotine restrictions on cigarettes is to be implemented.

An agenda of regulatory priorities for federal government agencies said the nicotine regulation was to be proposed by May 2023, but the FDA’s announcement cautioned that the dates in the agenda are not precise and may not reflect the work needed to compete a proposal, nor for “a final decision regarding whether a rule will be proposed”.
