Austria: heated tobacco regulation, June 2023

In Austria, every novel tobacco product, including heated tobacco, must be approved by the Ministry of Health before being placed on the market.

Anyone under the age of 18 may be prohibited from possessing and consuming heated tobacco if the National Tobacco and Nicotine Strategy 2022-2027 proposal is adopted.

Heated tobacco has a separate tax category, which will have a gradual increase until 2026.

This report provides a detailed analysis of the current regulatory framework in place in Austria for heated tobacco and herbal heated products, covering all policy areas.
