Switzerland: oral tobacco and nicotine pouch regulation, October 2024

The Federal Tobacco Products Act, which came into force on 1st October 2024, defines tobacco products for oral use as any “product, with or without tobacco, containing nicotine which, during its consumption, comes into contact with the oral mucosa and is neither smoked nor heated”. This includes products such as snus, chewing tobacco, snuff and nicotine pouches. It means these products are regulated similarly to traditional tobacco, with the exception of some ingredient restrictions and the text of the health warning.
