Users of smoke-free nicotine products may enjoy better dental health than tobacco smokers, according to a study conducted in Italy.
Researchers from the University of Catania’s Center of Excellence for the Acceleration of Harm Reduction (Cohear) found that while cigarette smoking, along with other “incorrect habits”, may damage teeth and gums, combustion-free products such as vapes and heated tobacco products (HTPs) appear to be associated with a lower accumulation of dental plaque and calculus (hardened plaque, also known as tartar) than combustible tobacco products.
