The EU’s Single-Use Plastics (SUP) Directive was approved on 5th June 2019 and aims to limit the impact of plastic on the environment. Single-use plastics are made wholly or partly of plastic and are typically intended to be used just once or briefly before they are thrown away. The directive banned some single-use plastic products for which alternatives can be easily used. Waste prevention is the main regulatory focus for the products that were not banned.
This report provides an overview of the directive and links to our environmental tracker that detail the requirements and transposition status of the EU’s SUP Directive in all 27 EU member states.
